This MK64 Tournaments page is curated and maintained by YoyoYoshi and documents the main tournament branches of the Mario Kart 64 Switch multiplayer community, including Grand Prix League, Ultimate Karter, itemless formats, 4P VS competition, CampKart, and newer international events.
Some events were built to last. Others just hit hard enough to matter anyway.
Grand Prix League
The Grand Prix League is run by YoyoYoshi and became the community’s main recurring league structure, helping turn match organization into a durable seasonal system.
Once it had seasons, it had a rhythm.
Season 1 winners: Tom (Division 1), SonicBoom (Division 2).
Season 2 winners: Tom (Division 1), urbanoutlaw (Division 2), ClapDaddy a/k/a Fuzz (Division 3), shellenor_throwsevelt (Division 4), Muro (Division 5 West), muffin (Division 5 East).
Ultimate Karter
The Ultimate Karter series created a Pro Karter pathway for stronger 2P Grand Prix players. The first Ultimate Karter was run by Gumby, and Ultimate Karter 2 was run by Patalus.
This is where the top end starts to separate itself.
Ultimate Karter: Patalus defeats Doctor DK Bananza.
Ultimate Karter 2: Fx64 defeats SonicBoom.
Ultimate Prospect
Ultimate Prospect was run by Gumby and created a secondary advancement path below the top Pro Karter tier.
Not everyone jumps straight to the top bracket.
Angelo defeats RAC to become Pro Prospect.
Middleweight Mirror Mode
Middleweight Mirror Mode was run by Patalus as a special rules Grand Prix event within the Discord era.
Different format, same arguments by the end.
urbanoutlaw defeats GG to win the tournament.
Saturday Night Main Event Shortcut Tournament
Saturday Night Main Event Shortcut Tournament was run by GG as a one off shortcut focused event within the Discord era.
Sometimes one skill is enough to carry the whole night.
GG defeats thecoolex to win the tournament.
4P VS Tournament Play
SpacedCowboy began running formal competitive 4P VS tournament play alongside Grand Prix, helping establish 4P VS as its own competitive branch.
It stopped being a side lane pretty quickly.
Nintendo Switch Online 4P VS Tournament champion: Patalus. Other finalists: Martin, Gumby, GG.
Official VS Ranked begins on January 1, 2025 and gives 4P VS a more formal long term structure.
CampKart
CampKart is hosted by Gumby and Nathan and brought both Grand Prix and 4P VS competition into live in person play.
Once everyone is actually there, the results feel heavier.
CampKart 1 was run by SpacedCowboy and streamed by SpacedCowboy and YoyoYoshi.
CampKart 1 Grand Prix: SpacedCowboy 1st, Gumby 2nd, N64 3rd.
CampKart 1 4P VS: SpacedCowboy defeats Gumby, Martin, and N64 in the final. Additional semifinalists: Patalus, YoyoYoshi, Muro, MrPitt.
